Friday, 22 February 2008 Why is it that when I find myself looking forward to going on holiday, I end up suddenly loaded with deadlines? As planned, I'm going to Zambales this weekend to relax and bake under the sun with Au. As in I'm really psyched about it because I'm just loving the fact that my goal to hit as many places as possible this year is actually coming along well. Moving. And then the deadlines show up. I have THREE. Of all the days my sideline racket assigns another article (haven't heard from them in almost two weeks since the last submission), they have to do it today. As in I have five days to finish it. Article is due on Thursday. And then I found myself taking on another project. A PR project for a shoe brand. It includes writing an article and doing press rounds (I asked Ai to do press rounds in my stead--we're splitting the fee) and the article is due on Wednesday. It was supposed to be Tuesday but I just had to beg off and ask for an extension. I don't come back from Zambales til Monday so it would really suck if I have an article to write the moment I get back from my trip. Welcome back bitch! Haha Anyway, I have to at least have a rough draft of the PR article by tomorrow night. I'll fine tune it on Tuesday and submit on Wednesday. The Automated Testing Tool article, on the other hand, will have to wait until Wednesday night. But I need to at least print out background materials to take with me. Oh God, I'll be reading about regression tests at the beach! Huhu. Oh well. I asked for this. I told myself at the beginning of the year that I want rackets. Multiple income streams. And now I have it. And they pay really good money--the PR racket, for one, will be paying me almost a whole month's salary's worth. I'll be damned if I don't do it! And the ATT article will give me a couple more thousand bucks worth. I'm actually earning really good money here! Wow. I so did not realize that until today. What I asked for I am actually getting. Freaky...but good freaky. So I love it! hehehe Back to work now. Have a great long weekend!

Friday, 15 February 2008 I totally forgot about Lent. And Fasting.Just this morning, I had a hot dog breakfast meal in Jollibee. A few hours later, I ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork Lauriat in Chow King. It wasn't until I read Chuvaness' blog about Lenten Sacrifice that I realized it was a Friday. And I totally broke the no-meat rule. Not that I honestly follow these things. But nonetheless, I'm feeling the old Christian guilt creep up on me so I've decided to sacrifice something really difficult. The verdict? ![]() Waaaah. :"( I'm saying goodbye to Starbucks Coffee until the end of the Lenten season. So that's a little over a month. I should have ordered that Tall Nonfat Caramel Macchiato with extra Caramel syrup earlier today. --- I just finished meeting with our CEO. I swear the man has the uncanny ability to make the hair on your neck stand on end. And I mean that in a good way. It's really different from talking to my immediate boss. The difference? It's the passion. CEO has put a huge chunk of his fortune on this service and he really really believes in it. As do I. But I believe in it even more every time I hear him talk about it. It's just contagious, his enthusiasm. Monday will be Day 1 of our launch. OMG I'm really excited. Waaaaah. This is going to be spectacular. :D

Yaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhh. Deep breaths. YOGA I need YOGA...Find your center... Sigh. So yes, I guess what I'm saying here is that this is one challenge I am choosing to overcome. I should really just quit with the whining and commit to something bigger than myself. And you know how they always say that succumbing to fear will only cripple you? It's true. Because my self-doubts are resurfacing, it has been keeping me from being productive and creative. So I am choosing to let these stupid doubts go. Go away, doubts! Go awaaaaaay! Heh. Great timing - I'm finally going to do Artist's Way. It's a workbook by Julia Cameron and it's supposed to help with creativity blocks, which I feel I am experiencing at the moment. So really great timing. I thought E would forget to bring it again yesterday but he didn't so I'm really excited to get started. I'm reading through the first few chapters now.I really DO want to experience myself at my utmost creative again. I'm planning on organizing a group exhibit for up and coming artists (including moi) for the second quarter of 2008. As in I've been thinking about this for a while now. I don't have a theme yet but I know I don't want to limit it to just one art medium. My job, so far, gives me a lot of free time to work on outside rackets so why not take advantage of it right? As in I see myself pushing through with the exhibit. So it's really good that I'm doing this creativity workshop now. Yiieeeeeee I'm excited!!! I'll even make an action plan for it by tonight!!!! hehehehehe That is, after I finish doing my pending project tasks. Ehehe. Labels: art, resistance, work

Friday, 16 November 2007 Second day at work and I thought I was already running late. When I got to my office, the lights weren't even turned on yet! lolI'm not used to working with people on flexi-time. Haha. Things at work, despite my initial shock though, are beginning to get interesting. I love how everyday is Casual Friday. I can wear anything I want! Yahoo! I love fashion freedom. Haha. I'm excited about tomorrow. It'll be the first time I'm staffing a FLEX seminar and I'm just really looking forward to it. Except for the 6:30am call time. Obviously I have nothing much to do yet but surf the internet. I need to research on how internet marketing works. I didn't realize how far behind I was about blogging etc until my boss asked me to check out what the hottest sites in the internet were! It's so overwhelming how extensive the virtual world has become. Amazing. There are a lot of untapped opportunities. I already sound like a tech geek in the making. Must not forget my kikay past...haha. Labels: work

Tuesday, 18 September 2007 It turns out my boss was very much aware of everything that happened in Cebu. The whole bit about her son and that wretched lowlife, everything. She called me to a meeting yesterday afternoon and just started talking about everything that happened. She apologized for her son and advised me to just ignore lowlife's incessant text messages. Good god, life was never this complicated!Insert Avenue Q song: I wish I could go back to college. Life was so simple back then. What would I give to go back and live in a dorm with a meal plan again? In college you know who you are. You sit in the quad and think 'OH MY GOD, I am totally gonna go far!' Apparently, said lowlife showed up at her house in the middle of the night to tell on me and Dons (we opened up to her about a couple of things about our lives before she turned psycho on us) and to sucker more people into feeling sorry for her pathetic little excuse for existence. I have never felt more betrayed. Boss also told me that tomorrow (today) we'll be drafting my contract. She told me that in light of everything that has happened, she would understand if I'm not as excited to begin really working for her. Told me to really think about it because she just wanted me to go with what would make me happy. So we're going to be meeting later this afternoon to talk about what I've decided to do. And I've decided to leave. I've been convincing myself to stay ever since I got back from Cebu. Been writing and then deleting and then rewriting my immediate notice. I've been struggling with the thought that me disengaging would mean me backing out of my commitment again, something I've been religiously avoiding ever since I resigned from my old PR company. I promised myself then that the next job I would be accepting will be THE job. And now here I am. And I just feel it in my gut, as in every cell in my body's screaming "This isn't IT Tricia!" I've realized that when it comes to keeping your commitments, you also need to commit to the thing that you feel is RIGHT for you. It's not just about keeping your word. It's about keeping your word for the RIGHT REASONS. And, clearly (though I've been denying it), the reasons I had for staying here were all wrong. I wasn't staying because I genuinely wanted to. I was staying because I needed to prove to everybody that I CAN keep my word despite everything (rather, everyone) that happened. I was staying because I wanted to show the crazy concerned people that nothing they do will EVER get in the way of me doing a great job. That they will never affect me in any way. But then my friend Alet pointed out, they clearly affected me because they were already influencing my decisions. Every fiber of my body's screaming "Get the hell out," but my mind keeps rallying against leaving because of what other people might think. Well I've had it with caring about what other people think. It's time I be responsible and me being happy is one of my biggest responsibilities. Yeah yeah, I know I sound totally self-absorbed but...well, deal with it. Some people may think me flaky but it's only because I know the difference between settling down and merely settling. I so do not plan on settling for something mediocre when I know I could do better. I'm not saying this company is mediocre, I'm saying my current situation is. Just wanted to clear that up. And anyway, if I were honest with myself, I know I have never really gone and tried HARD to get the jobs I've had in the past. They just came at opportune moments. I was bumming and I needed jobs. I guess you could say I haven't even reached for the stars yet. And, well, I'll let Kate Monster say it for me: You gotta go after the things you want while you're still in your prime. Jeebus. Enough with the Avenue Q quotes!!! LOL Anyway, there. End of another era! :) My parents are going to fly in from Davao today. And they will be greeted with not one, but two unemployed daughters upon arrival! Wheee! My mom's going to kill me. Hehe I kid. I'm sure they'll understand once I explain everything. My sister's totally going gaga about this Korean romantic comedy series called "Coffee Prince." She's done nothing but watch it all day. It's kinda funny. Girl meets Boy. Boy thinks Girl is a Guy. Boy then thinks he's Gay because he finds himself falling for Girl. Classic! Keep you guys posted! Ciao! Labels: work

Tuesday, 11 September 2007 Okay. I know it's too early to even utter these words aloud but...GOD TAKE ME AWAY FROM THIS HELLHOLE!Hehe I kid. :) I'm just a little bit, erm, concerned about the situation at work. Kind of disillusioned really. Kind of doubting my decision in choosing this company. I'm not fully acknowledging it because doing so would only confirm my worst suspicions...and that is...like I said, I'd rather not say it now. I am PAINFULLY OPTIMISTIC things will change...if not, well I always have a back-up. And that is to figure out what exactly my backup is! Wheee! Okay. Here's the deal. ONE. 90% of the people working here are related--only me and 2 other people aren't. Huhu I've landed myself in Nepotism Central. It is NOT an environment that promotes utmost professionalism. After the whole Cebu event...gawd I don't even want to think about what happened there. Basta I'm a bit turned off by the culture here in the company. TWO. When the big boss (my new dragon lady really) pulled me in, I was informed that she was on the verge of creating a new team. What I was not informed about was the fact that right now it would only be ME and her daughter (who, I am sorry, knows nothing about PR) making up said team. Nobody senior to learn from!!! Right now I'm just doing my F-ing best to pull everything together. THREE. My boss' son is hitting on me. I tried to let it slide everytime he started pulling his bulok moves in Cebu, but by the time the event ended, I finally SNAPPED and told him to buzz off. It was friggin harrassment!!! The reason I'm keeping my voice shut is because I don't want to cause any tension whatsoever in the company. But the moment he starts doing this again, tang ina I'm handing in my resignation notice with his wandering hands stapled as attachments!!! And what intelligent person would think that being called narrowminded meant the same as being called TANGA? Look it up in the dictionary moron. FOURTH. Well that's just about it. Hehe I'm going to be Miss Sunshine again. :D Oh and I've managed to land myself in an extremely bureaucratic company too. I suddenly miss the old PR agency. Haha I never thought I would ever say that! Labels: nepotism, red-tape, work

Thursday, 23 August 2007 I'm doing the crisis manual for the Cebu event. So far, I've included heart attacks, food poisoning, terrorist threats, fires, earthquakes, gas leaks, secret pot sessions, and the great big chandelier falling from the (gee I wonder where) ceiling a la Phantom of the Opera. Now I should really work on the less-extreme-but-most-likely-to-happen ones. Like Logistics. Pfft. Can I just sleep now? Last night was karaoke night with my friends. I got home around two in the morning, a wee bit drunk, and with "Total Eclipse of the Heart" wringing in my ears. I REALLY NEED YOU TONIGHT!!! Forever's gonna start toniiiight...Forever's gonna start tonight! Hahaha! I can still see Adelle totally rocking that line! LOL Good times, good times. :)

Thursday, 2 August 2007 I knew it! I knew he wasn't evil! Yipee! After days of being rudely interrupted by boring non-magical everyday errands, I finally managed to finish the final Harry Potter book--Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I didn't really expect it to be good, seeing as how I have long since maintained I only liked Books 1 to 4. Book 5 was too teenage angst drama while Book 6 was the wizarding world's version of Sweet Valley High. Lots of snogging. So like the books I read in high school (check out my room in Davao and you'll see what I mean. Thank god that phase ended when it was supposed to end. Hehe) Anyway, I loved Book 7. I'm so giddy with excitement to write a decent review!!!!!!!! I got goosebumps during the part when the truth finally came out!!! As in killer!!!! The epilogue (19 years later), on the other hand, kinda took me back to Book 6. Yeah yeah they got married. Another Sweet Valley moment. Another heebie-jeebie moment for moi. Okay, why am I so allergic to mush and anything resembling a healthy romantic relationship? Why? Why? Don't answer that. :P Anyway, if you haven't noticed, I've rarely updated my blog. It's not that I don't want to. I'm just impossibly overwhelmed by everything that's happening right now that I can't really put it into words. Writing it all down would probably lead me to break out in hives or something. So. What have I been up to? I started going to the gym. And believe it or not, I've actually started watching what I eat. As in I stare at my food for hours not touching anything. Harhar. I kid. I'm not so takaw now. Then again, I haven't been sorely tempted yet so we'll have to see about that. I also came up with a new mantra when it comes to dealing with guys: "Gay until proven otherwise." I started hanging out with a new group of people from my LEAP program and there was this one guy who I thought was straight. As in he looked ridiculously straight--my gaydar wasn't picking up any vibes at all. And then we had drinks last Sunday with the others and I don't know how he ended up saying that if he weren't gay, he'd ask me out. I was pretty buzzed by then. I think it started when I told him I loved his makeover earlier (er, long story) and how he looked really cute in the jeans they made him wear. And then he gushed about my dress. That practically triggered the gaydar, add also the bit where he suddenly announced he was gay and voila! Sexual orientation confirmed. lol I've had two job interviews so far. Both are PR companies. The interviews went well and both companies have asked I do another interview. Well, one of them wants me to do a writing test. The other one's asking to schedule a second interview. First interview was through telecon. I normally SUCK at it but today was different. I totally kicked ass. Kicked my own, but kicked ass all the same. Haha. I have wireless internet at home now!!! So this is actually a milestone. First entry written within the comfort of my lovely golden yellow bedroom! Life is good. ;) Labels: gaydar, harry potter, work
